Variety Showcase – Tuesday 3 May 7.30pm Cost £10 Guildhall Arts Centre. In aid of the Grantham Branch of Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Grantham Lions Club presents a variety showcase of local singers, dancers and musicians with acts including Maddie Rowlands, Jake Muffett, Grantham School of Dance, Charmaine Galtrass, Dennis Hannant and the Harrowby Singers. Lee Robins will be the MC for the evening.
Please come along and help us to raise money for this very worthy cause.

Once again the Lions Sleigh was out and about round Grantham just before Christmas. This involved being part of the parade when the Christamas lights were switched on. Then for 11 nights the sleigh went round many of the housing areas in Grantham.
As always the reception from the public was wonderful. The excitment of the children was as intense as ever. This year we were able to raise just over £3000 most of which will be used to help a number of charities in and around Grantham. A huge thank you to all who took part and helped in this activity.
Once again there is to be a Lions Variety Concert on Sunday 17 Oct at 2.15pm at Walton Girls School on Kitty Briggs Lane. The event is ‘sell out’ and so we need as many helpers as possible. Help is also needed to set up the hall at 10.00am that morning.
Once again we will have some great acts including Trevor Leeson, The Grantham School of Dance Dave Knight and many others.
It is always a most popular event so please come along and help.
One hundred young carers assembled at PGL for training and fun for three days, 1-3 Sept. The age of the carers was from 11 to 16. Part of the training they receive is in healthy eating and to support this message Grantham Lions provided 100 bags of fruit, containing oranges apples and bananas.
While at PGL there was the launch of the Young Carers Card. This is a new card for young carers to authorise them to discuss the problems of the adult or siblings they are caring for. One young carer explained that when her mother was released from hospital A&E the doctor would not tell her about her mothers condition and the tablets she was to take. The young girl was under 18 and was told she was too young to be told, even though she was the only carer at home. Lets hope the new card helps.
Young carers range in age from 6 to 16. In the next blog there will be news of how the action for young carers used the money raised at the Grantham Lions ‘Auction of Promises’ to provide an outing for the younger carers. Hopefully we will have some photographs of them having fun at Twinlakes Park at Melton Mowbray.

At the Lions meeting on 19th Aug we were addressed by Caroline Rossin from Rainbows Hospice. This was to thank the Lions for the £500 donation. Rainbows now have the new unit able to work with post 18 year old children. There is to be a Rainbows Open Day on 25th Sept 11.00am to 4.30pm. Lions and friends are encourabed to visit to see the great work done by Rainbows. For more information see the Interesting Links page for a link to Rainbows.
A donation of £100 was made to Peterborough Lion, Colin Morgan, who is cycling to Paris in aid of Diabetes Research.
The annual ten tin bowling match against Lincolnshire Mind (Grantham) is coming up soon. This will be open to Lions and friends so if you would like to take part please contact us. It is a good fun evening. The date of the match will be emailed to all subscribers.
The Lions Variety Concert for the over 60′s will be on the 17th October at Walton Girls. If you would like to attend or to come and help then please contact us.

This is a new area for the Grantham Lions. We plan to use this blog to keep in touch with both club members and the many friends of Grantham Lions who support us over the years. There will be details of the forthcoming fundraising activities, social events and donations made.
